I have worked in the Leisure Industry since I was 16 years old where I started as a part time Pool Lifeguard. I then progressed into the Gym where I did instructing and Personal Training. The Centres I have worked in include the Kingfisher Centre, LA Fitness and The Lensbury Club.
I have always had a passion for sport and have put my hand to a vast range. When I was very young I did Gymnastics and Dance. I then in my early teens took up X-Country running and Athletics I competed for the English Schools and represented Surrey and Southern England. I then took up Triathlons and entered a few races where I won in my age group.
I was introduced to Karate via my son, who has done it since he was 3, he started as a
Pee-Wee student and had achieved his 3rd Kyu brown belt by the time he was 10. He has entered many competitions and did extremely well in the FUNAKOSHI SHOTOKAN KARATE WORLD TOURNAMENT.
What attracted me to Karate wasn't just the physical aspect it has to offer but the other benefits such as focus, increase in self-esteem, self-discipline, calmness and a more positive attitude towards life.
Last year with my son, I entered the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate World Tournament where he won Gold in Kumite and I won Silver in Kumite and Bronze Kata.
Karate has become a big part of my life. I not only love doing the training but also teaching the children, seeing the shy children coming into themselves as well as seeing the boisterous children channelling their energy in a positive way.
I first saw Sensei Debi in action at my son grading in 2005. I was not only impressed with organisation of the grading but the relationship she had with all her Karate students. Sensei Debi had really found the balance of combining the Ethics of karate with the physical aspect and at the same time also keeping the classes filled with fun.
